JAZZ
This style of dance is fast-paced, fast moving and very stylized. You use the entire body, being able to isolate the head, shoulders, hips, arms and fingers with movement. Jazz dance is a form of dance commonly used in Broadway Shows and movies. Jazz classes range from beginner to advance levels.
TAP
Tap is a dance in which the rhythm is sounded out by the clicking of taps on the heels and toes of a dancer's shoes. This lively, rhythmic tapping makes the performer not just a dancer, but also a percussive musician. Available tap classes include beginner, intermediate and advance.
BALLET
Ballet is a dance form characterized by grace and precision of movement and by elaborate formal gestures, steps and poses. Ballet is best known for its virtuoso techniques such as pointe work, grand pas de deux and high leg extensions. There are five basic positions of the feet and arms. These are common in all training methods and are universally known and accepted. From these positions, ballet movements are created and portray a story. Classes are available from beginner to advance pointe.
HIP HOP
This popular urban youth culture dance is associated with street music and stylized dance movement. Hip hop dance classes range from a beginner to advanced levels. These classes encourage students to use their bodies in ways that help to develop/execute many different stylistic techniques. This style of dancing is not as thoroughly structured as some dance styles and allows students to interpret the moves in varied ways. Hip hop dance classes, are relatively fast-paced and challenging, and allow people to emphasize their creative rhythmic talents.
MODERN/AFRICAN
This discipline expresses complex emotions and abstract ideas through dance movements. It embraces the contributions of African American dance artists using both pure modern dance works and blended modern dance with African and Caribbean influences. It is a style of theatrical dance that rejects the limitations of classical ballet and favors movement deriving from the expression of inner feeling.
LYRICAL / CONTEMPORARY
Lyrical / Contemporary dance is the fusion of ballet and jazz technique, emphasizing strength, control, and interpretation. Expression from the inner emotion is a primary factor in choreographing and interpreting this art form. A key element in looking at a lyrical / contemporary piece is seeing the movements done in a flowing or continuous pattern. This style of dance interprets music or words, showing the audience the emotion of the particular piece.
MUSICAL THEATER
This class will focus on performance skills such as facial expression, connection to music and audience appeal while developing strong theater dance technique. It consists of Broadway, theatre, play or film dance styles whose action and dialogue is interspersed with singing and dancing.
COMBO
A beginning class for preschoolers to introduce them to the steps and terminology of various styles taught at a level appropriate for their coordination and movement skills.
CREATIVE
This form of dance encourages students to explore individual movement with a focus on building confidence, cooperation skills and developing an appreciation of each other's creative expression.
PILATES
Pilates is a form of exercise done on a mat in either a sitting or lying down position. The primary focus is on awareness of the spine, proper breathing, core strength and flexibility. The outcome of Pilates training is a balanced body which is strong and supple, flat stomach, balanced legs, and a strong back.
